Backpack Buddies

Through a partnership with God’s Pantry Food Bank, Second Presbyterian serves as Backpack Buddies for the children at Cardinal Valley Elementary School in Fayette County. Every week throughout the year that school is in session, shelf ready food, funded through grants, is picked up at God’s Pantry, packed into plastic bags and delivered to the school to the Family Resource Coordinator who distributes it to designated children.

Statistics show that 1 in 4 children in Central and Eastern Kentucky face food insecurity.

This program allows the children to receive food to take home to “fill the gaps” over the weekend when they are not receiving meals at school.
