Sunday School

They are a time for children, youth, and adults to dive deeper into exploring the Bible stories, learn Christian practices, and grow in faith in small groups. Children’s Sunday School classes are offered by grade level. Pre-Kindergarten through 4th grades are located in the Children’s Wing on the 3rd floor. 5th and 6th grades are located in the Middle School Youth Room on the ground floor. Sessions use age-appropriate Bible readings, crafts, and activities as we learn about God and grow in our faith together. Come and join us!

  • Pre-K/Kindergarten – Teachers: MK Holbrook, Nellie Wilkinson, Carrie Dycus
    Assistant Teacher: Violet Harrison
    (Room 308)
This year Pre-K/Kindergarten will be exploring 10 Old Testament Bible stories through the Workshop Rotation Model. This allows for children to learn one story for three weeks using different hands-on learning modalities: Science, Art, Cooking, Drama, or Music.  This year we will be exploring Creation, Noah’s Ark, Joseph, Moses, Christmas, Exodus, Samuel, Esther, Daniel, and Jonah. Children will get to use all their senses and creativity and really learn about these big stories in the Old Testament!

  •  1st & 2nd Grades – Teachers: Jenna Coy, Nancy Kelley, Cathy Rogers
    (Room 306)
Our 1st and 2nd graders will be using the PCUSA curriculum Growing in Grace & Gratitude this year. This curriculum lets children explore the Bible stories through the lens of grace. Each session contains opportunities for responses of gratitude through claiming, celebrating, praying, and offering as children experience the Bible stories through colorful and engaging games, maps, photos, song sheets, and more!

  • 3rd & 4th Grades – Teachers: Val Caudill, Stephanie Gilbert, Jackie Graves
    (Room 302)

This class is also one of our faith milestones at Second! In recognition of their maturing into their knowledge of the Bible, 3rd graders receive a Bible and the 4th graders receive a Bible Dictionary on our Fall Kick-off Sunday each year. The class uses the Bible 101 curriculum and alternates each year studying the Old Testament and the New Testament. Children learn how to use their Bibles and Bible Dictionaries to read and understand the stories. Each year the class will memorize the books of the Old or New Testament and several verses as they build their Biblical knowledge.

  • 5th & 6th Grades – Teachers: Chasity Hunt, Carl Walter, Jordan Yeiser
