Annual Children's Ministry Events
Advent Workshop is held from 3-5 pm on the first Sunday in December and all ages have ways to get involved and kick-off Advent! Children through 5th grade are invited to bring an adult family member and visit our 12 different stations to make Christmas crafts to keep, give as gifts, and celebrate the season! Adult and youth volunteers work in teams to lead children and their family members in making the crafts. Past crafts include ornaments, Christmas games, Advent Countdown, wreaths, Advent candles, nativity scenes, Christmas decorations, Reindeer food, and a Christmas Photo Booth. This is a beloved annual tradition at Second Pres, and a fun way to celebrate Advent together as a church family!
If you would like to join the Advent Workshop Team to help plan, set-up, help at the event, and/or clean-up please contact Marissa Carver, Associate Director of Children’s and Youth Ministry.
Each year the children at Second share the story of Jesus’ birth through story and song in our annual Children’s Christmas Pageant! Children ages 3 through 5th grade can participate by singing Christmas Carols and being characters in the Christmas story. Children learn the songs during WOW and also on Wednesday evening rehearsals.
The annual Easter Egg Hunt is offered by Youth Ministry for the children of Second. Youth will provide eggs with goodies inside and hide them for children on the lawn/playground of the church (or indoors, if rainy). Children will hunt by age group so everyone has a fun time and can find lots of Easter Eggs!
Vacation Bible School is offered in the summer for a week of evening fun and learning about how much God loves us! Each year we offer a fun theme that teaches scripture and Bible Points for children to learn each day as they travel in a family-style (multi-age) group to craft, Bible Story/game, science, and music stations. We will also enjoy a snack and prayer time along the way. Vacation Bible School is for ages 3 through 4th grade. 5th - 9th graders can be Group and Station Assistants, 10th graders – Adults can be Group and Station Leaders. Friends are encouraged and welcome to join us!
2024 Vacation Bible School was 'Camp Firelight'! Check out us singing our theme song here.
Communion Class is a chance for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders to learn more about the sacrament of Communion. Children come to the class with their parents to do hands-on activities and to explore why we have Communion and the meaning of Communion. Once children have attended the class they will be offered the chance to return from WOW (Children’s worship) and sit with their family in the sanctuary on Communion Sundays to take Communion. This year’s class will be offered on Wednesday, April 2nd from 6:30-8:30 pm.
Second Presbyterian has all kind of events for families year-round! Check out our events page for details!
