Each year in June, members of Second Church (health care professionals and general helpers) join with 30-50 other North Americans and 30 Hondurans to set up and run a one-week Medical and Dental Health Clinic. In one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere, they provide services including: general adult and pediatric medicine, oral surgery, general dentistry, vision care, physical therapy and pharmacy. In one week’s time between 1500-2500 patients receive treatment. Second Church’s Pastor Dan Hans has carried out this work for 20 years under the auspices of Medical Mission International– Canada and serves as the project Co-Director.
For more information about how to participate please contact the church office.
This is the public school where we held our 6 days of clinic and lived for 8 days – sleeping on beds or cots in the classrooms.
Pharmacy – over 6400 prescriptions were filled
Crowds gathered outside the school as early at 5:00 a.m. for 7:30 clinic opening.
Patients are screened and treated for intestinal parasites since 80% of population has intestinal roundworms.
